active  Topic # 1531  Jumping Labels

I have a project with about 8 or 9 forms, various buttons and labels (created in bird). The forms load fine, and most of them look exactly how I designed them, but for some reason, a few of them at run-time, keep "jumping". In Bird, I'll place a label at say X,Y, and at run time it will jump to X,Y-10, or X, Y+140.

Any ideas? Things were working just fine. I added a couple additional forms and then labels started jumping all over the place.

Help!

Oh I forgot to mention, a few buttons in my project (created in Bird as well) are behaving strangly as well. In this case, they're just not showing up in my project at all, even though they are enabled and useable in Bird.

Supertrucker,

Sounds similar to a problem I had a while back. Are you using updatelabel? See topic #1515.

Regards,

Yes I am. It's funny, though, I added an extra label, with no text in it, and all of a sudden all my dissapearing buttons reappeared, and most of my labels realligned themselves, with the exception of one label, which is like 5 pixels to the left of where it should be.

I read topic 1515, and I discovered that a week or two ago, after much frustration, so that's not it... One other note, usually, I add some code, compile it, run it, discover my bugs and do it all over again. I've noticed though, that for some reason the iziBasic compiler is grabbing the resources from the already compiled version of my app, instead of the resource file I tell it to grab them from. I discovered this when one of my forms kept compiling from a model that I had updated in Bird, but it kept displaying the old one, it was really wierd. I deleted appl version of my app, recompiled it, and my forms looked the way they should... for the most part. I still have labels jumping around on me.

Hello Supertrucker,

I don't have any idea of what is happening and why your application suffers from "jumping labels".
At this stage I would need to give a look into your resouce file and your source code to figure it out.

Quote: I've noticed though, that for some reason the iziBasic compiler is grabbing the resources from the already compiled version of my app, instead of the resource file I tell it to grab them from.
One thing is sure: iziBasic deletes the previous compiled application before generating a new one, so there is no chance that it grabs a resource from the already compiled version of your application.
To check this: change a letter within the resource file name in the RESOURCEFILE directive. Then launch a compilation. And you will get a last compilation error. Your application will have disappeared.

Cheers,
aldweb
