Hi there,

Just bought iziBasic to build some simple Palm GUI apps while train-commuting. Fun!

Some minor suggestions to streamline the compiler workflow:

- Add an option to always replace the existing target file. I get asked every time, and I say yes every time. ;^)

- After a successful compile, set focus on the Run button, so I can just hit the Select hard button to run it. Even better, add an option to auto-run after a successful compile.

- Language suggestion - In the DATE$ function, add an argument to support the 2 most common date formats (DD/MM/YYYY and MM/DD/YYYY). Currently I have to write a little subroutine to take the DATE$ that you return and convert it to the North American format.

- Slider control - Add me to the list of those eager awaiting this. Hope springs eternal. ;^D

Thanks again. Most fun I've had for $25 in a long time.

Hello Dave,

Your suggestions are excellent ones, thanks for providing them to me.

- Add an option to always replace the existing target file
This kind of warning was put to avoid users complaining to me that some missed compilation overwrote one of their wonderful software... too much precaution can lead to be annoying, this seems obvious to write but iziBasic is indeed annoying without this option you suggest.

- After a successful compile, set focus on the Run button, so I can just hit the Select hard button to run it
You have one of these newer devices which offer this "blue circle around buttons" option, don't you? My device is older than that and I never thought about it. I'll try to see what can be done in this area, "it's just" a question of changing the default button in the main form at some stage.

Even better, add an option to auto-run after a successful compile
Just like for your 1st suggestion, why didn't I think about it?

Language suggestion - In the DATE$ function, add an argument to support the 2 most common date formats (DD/MM/YYYY and MM/DD/YYYY)
Sure this could be added to avoid converting in a simple subroutine. But then, we could also add the Asian format, YYYY/MM/DD which is by the way the "other logical" one with the European one: I hope that you will agree that month ahead of day (the American format) is not very logical...

Well I developed iziBasic while train-commuting myself too, so I understand what you mean!

Cheers

Hi Dave,

I have written a PP applet (that you are free to use in your apps) that allow for various date manipulations. Here is the link: http://geocities.com/bh77a/palm_stuff/ib_applet_datetime.html

Didn't know the Asian format til Aldweb shared that bit of information. Will have to get that incorporated into the applet as well.

Regards,
bh77a (brian)

Let me just add that what I call the "Asian" format (or its abstract form being YYYYMMDD) is also the one to use to easily sort dates

Cheers,
