Whats with the CreatorID ?
le 10/12/2005 @ 04:51 par Will_3
What is the deal with the CeatorID ?
- Can't I just make one up?
- Why go to PalmSource and register it?
- Why are they trying to track all developers ?
- And, didn't I read something about only one CreaatorID per machine or somethin like that? What is that about? .. Two people can't develope code on the same Palm device ?? .. Or must each development have a different CreatorID ?)
- If I just make one up and don't register it wit Palm... and then release the program... will the PalmSource Police come and get my TX ? .. Will my program work on other Palm Devices? (How could it not? There is no way for PalmSource to distribute a list of authorized CreatorID's to devices and keep such updated.)
thanks for any comments as I'm not sure I understand what I read over at the PalmSource site on this.

All a creator ID Doesis keeps your applicatications from conflicting with other apps. If you use "BLZ5" as a creator and the application is removed by the user... You will also delete any other database with same creator Id... In this case Blazer Web Browser
If you dont want Palm to track your Apps then I ccan registar them under my name and give you an ID or as many as you need

KTiMaster,
Hmmm...
If I were to use "BLZ5" as a CreatorID for an application...
And the usere were to remove that Ap...
Then any other file with "BLZ5" as a CreatorID will also be removed?
Is that right?
Does that mean every single application must have a different creator id?
I thought you were supposed to go to PalmSource and get a single CreatorID and use that for every Application you created... is that wrong?
I guess I'm still confused about this.
Give me another try with the explination will you?
Sorry for being so thick on this... and thanks for the help.

Will, I think that the best thing to do is to register as a developer at PalmSource and follow instructions there to register a first CreatorID.
Cheers

OK Guys... I think I have it. You answered my questions KTimaster.
Probably good advice Aldweb...
Actually I have already registered at Palm source... so I could download their sdk, etc... I'll go back and do the CreatorID thing.
