active  Topic # 1287  NUMFIELD - How-To show underline

Hello,

I'm working my first iziBasic program. I have one input field in my app and it is a numeric field. When the compiled program starts, the initial value and the underline does not show. When I change the value -- the underline shows and the curent value shows.

How do I get the initial value and the underline show when the program starts?

Thank you very much for your help,

Richard

I'll answer my own question I guess I asked too soon

I fiddled around a little bit more. I tried SETFOCUS to the field -- which didn't workd. I then tried SHOW. SHOW did the trick.

Thank you very much for a wonderful product.

Hello Richard,

Your answer to your own question is a nice workaround.

The real solution is to set correctly the height of your NUMFIELD, as I am pretty sure that you set it too low. I don't have in mind the correct value for this parameter but it should be something like 13 or 14 for the standard font.

Cheers,

Thanks for the quick response.

I tried modifying the height. I am using the standard font on a Palm T3. The height was set to 11. I tried 13, 14, 15 then some crazy settings like 20 and 50.

The underlining still did not get displayed.

Richard

PS: I am making good progress with my little application. Thanks for iziBasic.

Hello Richard,

What is great about programming is that it teaches us to be humble

I was very sure of my answer and I wrote you almost in a haughty way... and you come back prooving me that I was somehow wrong

But, I still believe that this behavior of the fields you have is not standard. Do you have any special application that would change the way fields appear? Like SkinUI or PalmRevolt for instance (those I know can change this setting)?

Cheers,

Hello Richard,

Come back to think of it, I now remember some similar side effect and I think that the answer was provided somewhere on this iziBasic forum. The principle is that a NUMFIELD or TEXTFIELD should be initialized with a dummy value, even a space (" ") should make it, and I could see that your NUMFIELD (in the source code that you gently sent me) is initialized with a null text value (""). Then, the underline should appear. I don't know why this is, we should ask to PalmSource!
Maybe should I add something like a SHOW or UPDATETEXT just after the creation of a field in the iziBasic runtime, to make sure that the underline always appears. That is something I am going to think about for next version.

Cheers,

Thank you very much for taking the time to work with me and helping me along.

I tried putting in a default value of "0" in the fields. The numeric default is 0. The underlines did not show. I do not think I was increasing the field height at that time.

For now, I think I'll code my fields and simply include a SHOW for each NUMFIELD and TEXTFIELD.

Thanks again,

Richard
