active  Topic # 1155  Can BEEP override system sound setting?

08/03/2005 @ 21:31

I usually leave the system sound set to "off" (my wife is often trying to sleep next to me when I am using my handheld). This means that the BEEP command does not generate any sound. Is there a way that BEEP can override the system sound setting and generate a beep when the system sound is off? If not, is there a way that the BEEP command could be changed to accept an optional "volume" parameter that, if present, would override the system setting?

Thanks,
John

That did it, thanks.

I wrote a little program to help me take a patient's vital signs in the field. It's especially hard to count the patient's breaths while watching my watch for 30 seconds in the dark. I have the handheld beep to tell me to start counting and again in 30 seconds to tell me to stop.

Thanks again,
John
