actif  Sujet n° 1138  Hardware Key trouble

le 28/02/2005 @ 23:56

Hi.

Ok, so I am using the hardware keys(address book, to do, etc...) to move a character around the screen. However, if I press the button repeatedly it works for a couple of presses and then the application assigned to the key launches. This also happens if I keep the button pressed and let go after a short period.

I turned on Keyevents and am using doevents to capture the button presses.

The launch problem takes longer to happen on my Tungsten E, but, on the palm IIIxe or the M130 it happens almost right away.

Be happy,
Leo

I now believe that my problem does not have to do with the buttons. It is specific to the power conservation function on the Treo. I use the on/off button in my application but the Treo under some circumstances seeems to turn off the power and then when the on/off button is pressed to turn the screen back on, my application captures the button press.

First I don't want the screen to turn off in the first place while the program is running and second I don't want the program to pick up the button press if it is used to turn the screen back on.

Is there a way I can control either of those things?

Indeed some software register for an alarm (start at a given date/time), and turn off the device after they finished their background work.
For instance, this is the case for the Runtime software (uptime and battery tracking) which I just tested today.

Maybe is there some kind of battery saver in the Treo which will force turning off whatever an application does?

As the events management loop is built in an iziBasic application, the screen should never turn off unless asked by the programmer, so by you!

All of this means that there is no real way to ask a 3rd party application to not turn off the device at any time.

Then, I don't know how to handle the information if the button turns the screen on or off. Some study on this topic will be required to enhance iziBasic in this area.

Cheers
