...and what about a Yahoo group? |

A couple of days ago, I suggested Aldweb about creating an "izibasic Yahoo group", where we can create a community of izibasic users. One advantage that I found with this, is that everyone could receive the posts on our email inmmediatly.
Bue we can also share code, tips, sources, tutorials...
Let me know what do you think about this.

I gave to Montalvo my own personal feeling... well, I am not sure it is a feeling but it is feelings!
It would be great if you as iziBasic users would share your opinion on this topic and this very creative proposal of Montalvo.
Cheers

A Yahoo Group is also a mailing list. Every post in the group is send to everyone of the members by email. In that way, everyone can be up to date on the info generated by this project (izibasic, of course).

I have mixed feelings about Yahoo, mainly because of the barrage of annoying, intrusive ads that are thrown at me...
But that said, I admit that Yahoo Groups is probably the absolute best solution for this type of support. As you mentioned, it has file space, messaging, mailing list capabilities, and many other features. You have my vote for the Yahoo Group.
Next question: Who will "host" it? It could, but doesn't have to be aldweb. I have a Yahoo account, so I would gladly set it up, but if someone else really wants to do this, by all means, do so. Please let me know if you want me to set this up...

Well, a bit of poking around turned this up:
There is a Brazilian iziBasic group already established, so "iziBasic" cannot be chosen. I just asked to join, but do not speak Portuguese. Hopefully with the help of Babelfish, I can read it. The URL is here:
http://br.groups.yahoo.com/group/iziBasic/
If we wanted to start an "English" version, we would have to choose a different name... |

Well, if it would keep me up to date with questions and answers, I'm all for the Yahoo group.
Also, this way if others' answers are sent to me, I will be less likely to post duplicate questions.
I think it's a good idea, but does it have to be moderated? |

If I am not mistaken, the Yahoo Groups have several optional levels of security from wide open where anyone can post to "members only" with full moderation with variousl degrees in the middle. I would be happy to set it up if no one else wants to. Just let me know what you want it called, and I'll do the rest... |

Don't worry, Montalvo is an expert in setting up and managing Yahoo Groups
The real topic behind all this discussion thread is: what is the best way to create the best experience sharing community of iziBasic users? One assumption is that one is needed. This is what I received very proudly, as you can imagine, from Montalvo
This web site and forum were a first proposal to start from scratch. Is that enough for you? Would a Yahoo Group be better? How to organize ourselves to handle and manage such a user group?
These are the questions that come to my mind when thinking about this topic.
Cheers

I like the idea of getting email notification and have no bias about Yahoo. However, minimizing the developer's effort should be highest priority in my opinion. What ever is easiest for Aldweb is what I vote for. |

Thank you Chuck for your very nice comment.
On my side, it is very clear: I do not wish and do not have time either to do more than what I currently do, i.e. working on the development of iziBasic and running this web site. But, I do appreciate very much and I do welcome positive initiatives for all iziBasic users.
Cheers
