Hi!
There is no need for the soap--I decided not to get my hands dirty. I read through the Pascal Starter you toId me about. I was super, but I have really no time to leIarn Pascal and even less to make programs with it. It looks great though. I think I'll play a little with iziBasic instead, so you will probaby hear a lot from me.

I have a problem with "if".
This works:
if M>1 show #2

but this doesn't:
if M>1 then show #2

The program loops with the object flickering. I have to reset. I know it may look silly to place a "then" if it's not needed, but from what I see in the manual it is legal.

BTW MegaStrings is really super. I use it to read in the name of all doc-pdb's padded with spaces to 40 chars and then I use buttons to step through them to select one of them. It's not a dropdown list but it works fine for me. To use a MegaString this way is much better than to use an array--you never have to worry about if it is big enough.

Have a nice time.
/Peter

Hello Peter,

but from what I see in the manual it is legal
=> Then, I must have not been clear enough in the manual...

Because, the IF statement can be used in two ways:

1. a one line statement, and then no THEN, no ELSE, no ENDIF
The end of the line implies the end of the IF statement.
Example:
IF M>1 SHOW #2 : A=A+1

A is incremented only if M>1.

2. a multiple line statement, with THEN (mandatory), ELSE (facultative), and ENDIF (mandatory).
Example:
IF M>1 THEN
SHOW #2
A=A+1
ENDIF

I am happy that you appreciate the MegaString. It is something I was also badly missing until now.

And I am more than happy to read that you were creative to bypass some of the initial limitations you found in izibasic with very smart tricks.

Cheers

That was really silly of me. You are so right, just like the manual. I'm sorry for that.
