Sharp PC-1401 (sorry for posting this before as a reply to Pierre) |

Hi all. I just got a Sharp PC-1401 and I like it a lot. Basic was never that much fun as when you code on a device you can hold in your palm :) I also have a TI-85 and have tried to program it when i was bored, but it was way too cumbersome to find the commands in the catalog or type them letter by letter. However, I can see now just how advanced these graphing calcs are compared to the oldies like my Sharp. I'd like to learn how to use the PC-1401 to its full potential, but along with the computer (which btw I got for free from one of my teachers who had long since abandoned it and now has a Casio :) ) I didn't get a manual. So,if any of you know of any manual online, please let me know. ty much Mike |

I guess i'm the first to answer my post...with another question. I tried "cload" without any parameters my Pc-1401 and it started to beep until I shut it off. I don't know if it's supposed to do that or if something is broken. I assume the command loads something, but I don't know whether it is from its internal memory or if it tries to look for a device attached to its port-btw,what can u attach to that port? thanks Mike |

Hello Mike, PC-1401 is a nice model, the first of a famed scientific serie (pc-1401,1402,1403, 1460,1475,e500, etc...). I'm sure you will have more pleasure to use it than the TI-85, and it is lightest! There is a ressource page for the 1403 at http://home.pfaffenhofen.de/lehmayr/PC-1403/e_pc1403.htm Here you will find a nice short manual with a resume of all the commands. Most functions of the 1403 are the same for the 1401. "cload" is use to download programs from a tape, and "csave" to save programs to the tape, with the 11 pin interface on the left of the pocket computer. In the adress above there is explanations about the interface and it is easy to connect any tape recorder. Cload was also used by students to imitate an electric shaver in classroom ;-)All the best Pierre |

I just wrote a simple "guess the number" program. I really like the device, especially all the statistic functions the calculator has. I can't get them to work, but I'll download the manual from the site Pierre provided. 9MB on dialup...ouch :) |

If you checked Simon's forum you noticed that I scanned the PC-1401 System handbuch (in German), 100 pages. But the problem is that this pdf is very big (25+Mb). I don't know where to put so you could download it. If you have FTP I can upload it. Or maybe if Aldweb can provide a space for this (if possible open temporary username for me to upload it etc.). Original TIF files (100 files) have more than 250Mb. Let me know. If you have a space and a GOOD internet (I have 2x10Mbits) connection than I can give you TIF files.
Bye, Saso |

Hi Saso,
try make a version with 96dpi, for looking at the screen. This will use much lesser MBytes, I think. Also changing to black-and-white or grey-scale will use less MBytes.
Let us know. Jürgen. |

I think I'll try to download the 9MB manual for 1403, providing it's in English or French. Sorry, I don't speak any German, but I will try to learn some when I get some spare time :) |

I will do my best in converting the scans into some smaller and to keep the resolution in good quality.
To Mike: I don't speak German too. But the book is NOT a BASIC user's guide. It is a system handbook (with ROM addresses, system variables etc.). It can be of use even if you don't speak German. I anyone knows for a site where I can upload a file (just for a week so you all can download it) let me know. Or if someone has cable (or similar) and has FTP I can upload it to that computer.
Bye, Saso |

Hehe, I wish I knew that much about computers, but unfortunately I don't. Just an user's manual would be most helpful. Thank you anyway Best regards Mike |
