I'm a beginner and started with file of 2050 text phrases which read properly, but don't show up when I try to read one in the following program, which runs, but gives neither error messages for reading, nor a response in the message box:

{CREATORID "MAX1"}
DIM A$(100)
BEGIN
OPEN "AUTH1" FOR INPUT AS #1
INPUT #1,A$
M=MESSAGEBOX(A$,0)

For JoeV who kindly helped, and for anybody interested about converting flat files to the Palm PDB format, here is a great tool I found today (thanks to Roy for his need!): DB-Editor.
Converting Roy's files took me 2 minutes, and "voilà".

Hello Alweb,
I was considering a new post titled “where is aldweb?” You need not work THAT hard on the new version!

This is just to thank you for your help, and to let you know that adweb solved the problem of reading the file by first converting the file to *.PDB and then using INPUT$$ #1,65 and A$=GETSTRING$$(3,64) to extract the strings.
