• Freeware Files (New Files - August, 1999)

  Memo Friends is an address and data book which stores all relevant information and significant dates for each entry. It also automatically notifies you when an important date arrives. It incorporates a date reminder system where special dates are displayed. Birthdays, anniversaries, and other important dates will no longer be forgotten. Memo Friends also backs up your database in HTML format which allows you to easily view the data with your browser.
  
  

• CompletelyFreeSoftware (E-mail Update Newsletter #82 - Issued March 19, 1999)

  This is one of the better address/data books available as freeware.
  
  It incorporates a date reminder system where birth dates and other special dates are displayed in the main window -- listed either by name or by date. The program has three tabbed windows and opens at the "Dates to celebrate" window. This window displays all dates mentioned in the data section which are within one month of the current date. The second tabbed window, "Friends Data", is where you enter all the usual information (including those birth dates and other special dates). The third window is for Options and Help.
  
  The program offers you a choice of seven backgrounds, English or French (the author is from France), squared or rounded button corners, etc. You can also save your data as a text file.
  
  While simple in concept, we were most impressed with Mémo Friends and if there was any area which were would like to see improved it would be some Internet-based data (URL, e-mail address, etc) with a link from the telephone numbers to a dialer, from the e-mail address to an e-mail client, and from a URL to a browser.
  
  Certainly worth a look!
  
  Update (Aug 10, 1999) : Mémo Friends has been upgraded to version 2.5 with a new download of 511kB (up from 508kB).
  
  The author says: "I took into consideration the very good ideas from CFS as explained in the newsletter #82 issued Mar 19, 1999. Now, Mémo Friends has some Internet-based data (URL, e-mail address) with a link from the e-mail address to the PC's default e-mail client, and from the URL to the PC's default browser".

• (a French freeware magazine - Number 4 - September 1999 - 25 Franch Francs)

  De type gestion de contacts, Mémo Friends possède quelques caractéristiques intéressantes. Il est doté d'une fonction de surveillance automatique de dates (qui est très efficace car pouvant se déclencher au démarrage de Windows et tourner en tâche de fond (tray-icon)). Voilà la solution idéale pour ne pas oublier de fêter des anniversaires ou autres évènements importants. Mais encore faut-il que la base soit correctement renseignée ! Alors, à votre clavier... Les données de la base peuvent être exportées au format texte ou HTML.
  
  

• Free & Share Pour Vous (A now closed web site from my friend Gilles, September 1999)

  L'avantage de gérer ses adresses personnelles sur son PC est indéniable : inutile de recopier sur son nouvel agenda tout neuf et tout beau, aimablement offert à la fin de l'année (c'est à dire bientôt , pensez-y !) par votre banquier ou autres souhaitant vousconserver en tant que "client privilégié", toutes les adresses accumulées pendant des mois et des mois.
  
  Mémo Friends (qui, contrairement à ce que son nom peut supposer, est un logiciel conçu par un sympathique Auteur français) remplit parfaitement et agréablement cette tâche.
  
  Vous y stockerez bien sûr toutes les coordonnées de vos amis (adresse, téléphone, e-mail, site Internet, dates d'anniversaire et de fête, ...) mais en plus Mémo Friends vous permet de notifier deux dates pour vous rappeler les événements importants. C'est génial pour les "têtes en l'air" : à chaque démarrage de votre PC (Mémo Friends possède une option permettant son lancement automatique dès que vous allumez votre sublime machine), ou à chaque chargement du logiciel, TAC ! : Mémo Friends vous rappelle la date d'anniversaire de votre mariage ou la date de retour de vacances de votre belle-mère... C'est merveilleux !
  
  Les sauvegardes n'ont pas été oubliées et peuvent s'effectuer sous forme de fichier TXT ou HTML.
  
  Petit détail sympa : en cliquant sur les boutons "Site Internet" ou "e-mail", votre navigateur est aussitôt chargé.
  
  Notons que Mémo Friends a été très largement plébiscité par les plus grands sites outre-Atlantique consacrés aux freewares...
  
  L'interface est sobre, simple et efficace. Son utilisation est donc agréable... Bravo !
