Hello :)

I've just bought what appears to be a brand new and boxed '1360'.

As a young techie girl in the 80's I had a PC-1248 and bought one of these a few weeks back soon realising why I became bored with it in the 80's, you can barely hack the 1248. So now I have a 1360.

Lots of ideas here of things to do, the first would be to pick up some 32Kb memory cards and to build a serial interface. No problems with the MAX233 and digital I/O :) I turned out as an embedded software engineer after all that poking and peeking in the 80's.

The first offer of information I can give all of you regarding the 15pin I/O ports is that they're the same size as 2.5" laptop hard drive connectors :) So single in-line 1.27mm (0.05") connectors are almost readily available. The 11pin I/O ports are totally standard 2.54mm (0.1") pitch too. The crucial figures here don't seem to be documented that much out there.

Would there be any call for serial I/O cables as I'm tempted to design a PCB with SMD components on it, and with these single in-line 1.27mm connectors, then to encapsulate the things in heatshrink?

If anyone has any memory cards for sale or even any of the official Sharp 15pin connectors then please do get in touch.

Also eager to get into the machine code on the 1360 too. Have been spoilt with 35instruction RISC microcontrollers so the 100 or so instructions of the 1360 is going to be new.

Hope there are others out there??

All the best,

techie_alison

Hello Alison,

You just bought the best device ever made!

I've had a 1360 since the 80's too, and could avoid the terrible feeling you had because of owning a 1248 instead of a 1360.

About your electronic stuff ideas, I would recommend you to get in touch with my friend Simon, he is the best one for the Sharp devices (and he started everything with a PC-1360 too), Simon's web site is here: http://www.lehmayr.de/e_pc.htm.

Cheers,
aldweb

Hi Aldweb,

Thanks for saying Hi Ah the 1360, definitely looks the part. The 1248 is a little bit limited as to what you can do.

Simon nods. Yep am on his forum alongside this one. At the moment it's just the memory spec I'm after as at £60odd commercially for a card they're a bit high. Would be nice to sell everyone a 256Kb card for about £25 with a gerber'd PCB.

Aly

Well, Alison, if you succeed to boost the PC-1360 over 64 KB of RAM usage... I would kiss you
But I think that this is quite an impossible thing to do...

On my side, my greatest expectation would be to get some kind of external storage (maybe SD Card?) emulating the CE-140F floppy drive. Would you build that, I would kiss you twice

Cheers,
aldweb
