Is their some way to copy write the software I write with izibasic?
I have noticed that some programs that I buy cannot be beamed from one handheld to another. I would like to write a small encryption program based on the handhelds username.
Can this be done with izibasic or do I need a pp applet?
Got a good example?

Hello Gary,
Yes all of what you ask for is possible.
To protect an application from being beamed requires to set a flag in the application's attributes. This can be done with Bird or FileZ for example, once the application was compiled and is ready to be made available.
Be aware that this flag can just be unflagged as easily using the same tools. So, it is not a protection against hackers and smart users, just a first level of protection for standard users.
The handheld's username, or hotsync username, can be retrieved with the HOTSYNCINFO$() function. Then, the encryption program or routine is up to you.

I have seen the copy protect button on RsrcEdit, but it will not let my check it.
I tried Bird, but I can't open any of my programs rsrc files. When I double click the file I want it opens and I see the numbered forms but I can't open them. I doubled clicked on the form, but they don't open.
Any manuals written for Bird?

Hello Gary,
With RsrcEdit, the Copy Protect tick box can only be checked for an application, not for a resource file.
So you can copy protect MyApp but not MyApp.rsrc. And it is MyApp that you will distribute to users, not MyApp.rsrc which is just needed to build the resources of the application.
I don't understand what your issue can be when using Bird, sorry...
No, there is no user manual for Bird. Apart from the double click trick which replaces the [Open] button of RsrcEdit, most of Bird's behavior is very similar to the one of RsrcEdit.

The problem I was having with Bird was really my problem, I wasn't double clicking fast enough.
