Hi the sleeping forum,
Cynox.de in Germany still sold Pc-E500 and memory card for this pocket.
Do you think these memory card could also work for PC-1450,60,75... ?
All the best
Pierre

Of course they work! Laurent and I have already tested with the PC-1360. However, the way each PC formats its card is machine-dependant, so don't expect exchanging programs directly from a 1450 to an E500 for example.

Cheers,

Sébastien.

Pierre,

Just a complementary information to Sebastien's answer : although these cards sold by Cynox have a capacity of 128 KB or 256 KB, only the first 32 KB are recognized by the PC-1360.

For the other devices that you mention, I did not test as I do not have them. But, in theory, they should work just the same way as the PC-1360.

And, thanks to both of you Pierre and Sebastien to write in English (although you are both French). It will for sure help the people coming from all over the world :-)

See you,
aldweb

Our English writing is far easier to understand than the content of our messages, don't you believe so?

Hello,
I receive today the 256k Ram Card from Cynox.
It works with the PC-1475, which then display a marvellous 31134 bytes of memory (please don't laugh Pentium user : you can do far more thinks with 32 kb in a Sharp pocket than with 32 kb under Microsoft Windows ! )
It don't work with the PC-1460, I wonder why ?
Finally I was unable to use the card with a PC-E500s which already have a 512kb internal memory extension. I suppose that the memory extension is already considered as a card. If some of you have info about this ?
All the Best
Pierre

Hello Pierre,
I'm very happy to meet a new PC-E500/S user !
The PC-E500/S has a 1 MB address space (20 bit address bus). Memory is mapped as follow:
S1: $80000~: 256KB (CE0)
S2: $40000~$7FFFF: 256KB (CE1)
S3: ~: 256KB (CE2) (ROM)
Two areas are accessible through CE3 and CE6 (see ESR-L documentation):
$20000~$3FFFF: 128KB (CE3)
$10000~$1FFFF: 64KB (CE6).
Cynox's 512KB upgrade makes use of S1 and S2, so there is no chance to add another 256KB RAM extension without using something like DELTA (from Takashi Kamio). DELTA extends memory up to 768 KB (256 KB of RAM accessible as a virtual disk under "D:").
A 256 KB RAM card coupled with a internal 256 KB RAM has many advantages over a "monolitic" 512KB: You can protect easily half of the RAM using a switch and run machine language programs without having to worry about "S2:". Maybe the same effect may be achieved on your machine by adding a switch to the "WE" pin of the RAM extension...

Cheers,

Sebastien.

Hello Sebastien
Thanks a lot for these information.
Could you precise me what is DELTA ?
Truly I will probably never succeed to fill the 512 kb, but I am very curious.

Hello Pierre,

Take a look at the following link :
http://www.kt.rim.or.jp/~tmizuno/pocket/e500/delta.html
It is a japanese page but there are schemes, so even if you don't understand japanese you may guess how it works!
The basic principle is to switch between memory banks (like into the PC-1360!).
You can try to translate the page using an automatic translator (Altavista provides a good one). I tried and found the result acceptable enough.

Cheers,

Sebastien.
